Want-A-TONs

Apples, butter and sharp cheddar are wrapped in wonton wrappers and baked to make bite-sized wonders. They’re so small and so good, you’ll want a TON!

Ingredients

  • Parchment paper or cooking spray
  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 1 Frigo® Cheese Heads® Wisconsin Snacking Cheese Sharp Cheddar, cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, or to taste
  • Wonton wrappers

Note:
Ingredient portions are not exact, because you can make a little or a lot of this delicious snack treat! 1 stick of cheese and one apple make more than 6 Want-a-TONs!

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or coat with cooking spray.
  3. Peel and cut the apple into small squares and set aside. Do the same with the Frigo® Cheese Heads® Wisconsin Snacking Cheese stick.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the apple squares. Sauté until the apples are soft. Then, sprinkle with cinnamon.
  5. To assemble the wontons, place the wrappers on a smooth surface. Spoon 1 teaspoon of the sautéed apples into the center of each wrapper. Then, top each with a small square of the cheese.
  6. Using your finger, rub the edges of the wrappers with water. Fold all sides over the filling to create an “X,” pinching the edges to seal.
  7. Place the wontons in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and crisp.
  8. They’re best served right out of the oven!

Alternate Recipe: Making two is as easy as one! Try a version with a small teaspoon of fig preserves in the wonton wrappers instead of the apples for an even sweeter treat! Or make them both, and really “wow” your guests!
